Kado Scrapbook

Backstory From My Old Comics: Kado is the world's greatest pizza delivery guy, or at least he thinks he is. He guarantees your pizza will get to you on-time. This means he often has to take shortcuts, and Kado's idea of a shortcut does not rule out driving off a cliff and landing in front of the customer's house. One day, Desiree's pirate gang showed up in his town and destroyed his pizza parlor. As payment, Kado made them take him on as a member so that he can cash in on the treasure they find to rebuild his establishment. Kado likes to scream everything he says and talk really fast. When dealing with the workers in his parlor or with Desiree and her gang, insults just fly right out of his mouth like water from a faucet. Cody thought his days of arguing were over once Honen Calzoun left the team, but then he got Kado...who might be even worse, but only slightly. (BTW, Kado's name is pronounced like "KAH-do" with the "a" sounding like the one in "khan".)

Character Design Notes: I had a friend who loved watching Speed Racer and I ended up seeing it quite often as a result. Kado was heavily inspired by that show and it shows in his design and clothing. He's also supposed to talk really, really fast which was a parody of how fast everyone talked on Speed Racer to sync the dialogue. Some people have asked me if Toonces the Driving Cat was an influence on the scenes with Kado's car going over the cliff because I have been a huge Saturday Night Live fan. I guess it might have, but it seemed like there was a time in the 80's when there were countless shows about cars in which cars would go rolling over cliffs and flying into the air and other crazy crap (like Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard, to name a few), and not to mention that it happened on Speed Racer a lot, too, so it might've been more a result of us both parodying the same thing. Unlike Rex Cardinal who spoofed Zorro and The Lone Ranger, I kept Kado around. The main reason is because I actually thought he was much funnier, and also because he's not quite so blatant a rip-off. Along with being a reference, he's become his own character, too.

Kado in the RAU Gallery: Kado is a tertiary characer in the modern series. He has rebuilt his pizza parlor and gone back to his normal line of work. He shows up every now and then when someone orders a pizza and to provide some comic relief.
